Antigone

I like Antigone's story. So I use her statue as my icon (with added sunglasses to bring her into the 21st century). The statue lives at The Met: Antigone Pouring a Libation over the Corpse of Her Brother Polynices, sculpted by William Henry Rinehart. It captures the climactic moment in Sophocles’ tragedy when Antigone defies the state to honour her brother.
He was killed in battle and denied a proper burial by Creon, the ruler of Thebes. Antigone, refusing to accept this injustice, performs the sacred burial rites in secret. Rinehart chose to immortalise the moment she pours a libation over her brother’s grave, resisting tyranny and honouring civil liberties.
Antigone’s story of resistance, morality, and complexity reminds us that standing for something matters. Every brand needs a story. Our challenge is how do we tell it to guide people towards a world that better serves them?
